In March of 2012, more than 60,000 people gathered at Charlotte Motor Speedway
to celebrate a long-overdue “welcome home” for the North Carolina men and women who served their country nearly 50 years ago in Vietnam.
The North Carolina Association of Broadcasters asked me to create a one-hour, live, state-wide broadcast to share the excitement and high emotion of the Charlotte event. As a Vietnam Veteran myself, I welcomed the chance to repudiate the tired myths of the troubled Vietnam veteran and at long last to portray these men and women with the respect and dignity they deserve.
The video clip begins with the entire broadcast title sequence, not because the sequence is slick and highly-produced, but because it set the tone for the broadcast with a straight-forward statement of the philosophy behind the show.
